Flyers lock up Bourdon; Sign Laughton to Entry Level Contract
Today the Flyers announced that they have signed Marc-Andre Bourdon and Scott Laughton.
It was only a matter of time before Bourdon, a restricted free agent, signed a contract. The 22 year old defenseman played admirably last season for the Flyers scoring 4 goals and 7 points in 45 games. The rookie defensman was an injury call-up but soon earned his place in the lineup before injuries of his own set him back. With Andrej Meszaros out for the foreseeable future Bourdon has become an important player on the Flyers blue line. According to CSN’s Tim Panaccio the contract is 2 years worth $1.225 million ($612,500 cap hit).
Laughton, who was the 20th overall selection by the Flyers in this years draft, was given an entry level contract. He figures to fight for a job on the big club in training camp. In 127 games in the Ontario Hockey League Laughton scored 33 goals along with 76 points. He can be compared to current NHLer John Madden a defensively responsible forward who can score a goal here and there. Panaccio also reports that Laughton’s deal is worth $925,000 per season with performance bonuses of $212,500.
